It's been a couple of months now since I've seen Loving Vincent, and even though I was mesmerized by the stunning oil paint animation and exceptional creativity poured into the production, I was a bit disappointed with how the film had turned out emulating a detective story. Or maybe it's just me asking more of Vincent Van Gogh, the person, who I've entirely missed out of this biographical homage. What ails him? Who fulfills him? What perches at the core of his universe? It's a needle in a haystack.

Nevertheless, digital tools may be the key to unearthing our beloved artist's persona, ironically. Who knows? The soul that has breathed within his art throughout the centuries has yet remained a mystery. Well, I guess we'll continue to crack the code, the symbols and myths behind these artists' life's work, even if it means probing the darkest alleyways of their brush strokes.

Gustav Klimt in ‘La Halle’: an immersive exhibition

In the spring of 2018, Bruno Monnier, President of Culturespaces, announced the opening of the first Digital Art Centre in Paris called the Atelier des Lumières. Using 120 video projectors and a spatialised sound system, the multimedia equipment covers a total surface area of 3,300 m2, extending from the floors to the ceilings and over walls up to ten metres high.

Its opening in April 13, 2018 boasted an immersive exhibition featuring the main figures in the Viennese art scene, in which Gustav Klimt played a key role. To mark his hundredth death anniversary, his works are being brought to life in a breathtaking tribute curated by Culturespaces’ Cultural Programming and Exhibitions appointed director, Beatrice Avanzi.

The sequence opens with a projection of the neoclassical Vienna, Kilmt and the Vienna Secession, Klimt’s use of gold and his vision of nature, followed by a glimpse of Egon Schiele’s works as influenced by Klimt. The scene afterwards sweeps into Klimt’s images of women, as the sequence closes.

Sketching the baby

I've finally reached the end of a long hiatus. Once again, I'm steering my way back toward the blogosphere, which is a memory long gone. I have, however, managed to work through a couple of sketches to ward off the blues.

Even though the trip had all been spikes and skies, I was still able to drive home a pocket-sized artwork in flesh and blood, a little human about to walk this bumpy road called life with me. So, I guess I'm up to more sketching, blogging, and mothering from now on.
